Teaching Assistant


We require an experienced teaching assistant to work as part of the education and care team for our client, based in his own home. There will be a support worker providing our client’s care throughout the school day.  As the teaching assistant you will support our client and his teachers to fully engage with his educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.

Our client has flexible learning which takes place within the school, at his home and his local community. The roles and responsibilities will be varied, and the job will include supporting our client with his flexible learning both within the school and home settings. The role of the teaching assistant will enable our client to have a constant teaching support no matter where he is receiving his educational activities.

You will be expected to prepare the classroom or home environment for the educational activities and tidy away afterwards. You will assist our client to engage fully with all the planned activities and ensure that he is happy and well supported. You will help teachers to plan his education across all settings and provide feedback on his progress. You will be working within a large multi-disciplinary team and will be expected to integrate the therapy strategies into the educational activities.

You will be expected to develop a professional relationship with his parents and ensure that they have time to remain as parents rather than being a required part of his care.

Working hours: 08:00am – 17:00pm Monday to Friday, term time only.    

1+ years’ experience as a teaching assistant within a special needs school is essential, as is working with children who have complex learning disabilities and physical complexities of care. Experience working within a community and/or family setting is desirable, as is experience working with adolescents who have a disability. Also good IT and communication skills is an essential requirement.

All posts are subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure with Child Workforce Barring.  Full training will be provided. A full driving licence is essential.
